Why do I do sculpture? Because it is the visual art that is nearest to
dance and because I can't draw well. I know that I could, with effort
create reasonable drawings, but I find sculpture to be so certain ,so
direct that at times it has the effortlessness of dancing. Working the
way I do with steel I can barely keep up with the creative process. As
a I work on one piece I can see other possibilities, other ways, other
dances. I find finishing pieces to be one of the hardest parts of the
process; the finishing processes are generally not very exciting.
Generally, I work directly with no preconceived idea. I choose an
object, a steel part, and respond to it by focusing on what makes it
interesting to me and by cutting, bending and blending other parts with
it I eventually arrive at something that expresses my response to the
part's or parts' dance. Many times I listen to Soca music while I work
to free me from over intellectualizing.

Children's art—direct, expressive, colorful. Graffiti—it's big,
it's public, it's got lots of patterns, it's not precious, it's got a
message.
Hundertwasser—organic, colorful, is driven by a deep sense of
the earth.
